Pirates’ minor league affiliates managed just one win on Thursday night despite the best efforts of a number of noteworthy prospects.
Triple-A Indianapolis fell 5-4 via a walk-off infield single; they also saw Nick Gonzales’ 14 game hitting streak come to an end.
Sean Sullivan worked a strong start for the Altoona Curve, pitching five innings of one-run ball. It wasn’t enough for a win, though, as Altoona’s offense only managed four hits in a 4-0 loss.
The Greensboro Grasshoppers were the lone Pirates’ affiliate to earn a win on Thursday, powered by a grand slam from catcher Geovanny Planchart and two extra base hits—a double and a homer—from shortstop Jack Brannigan… among several other contributors in the 11-1 blowout. Single-A Bradenton was the second club to end up on the wrong end of a walk-off, as one run apiece in the eighth and ninth innings sank their chances in the 5-4 loss.
